foil and dead leaves

Hey guys, So I'm trying out my new D80. I'm playing with more artistic shots right now. With this one I foiled my son's face, then mine. I then placed it in a light-box and added dead leaves for theme. 50mm 1.8D 500ISO 1/10 F6.3. Minimal sepia adjustments in Capture NX.

Thoughts appreciated...

Im not sure if you want opinions on the picture, subject matter or both.

But, I will say that first off I find the foil face a little bit spooky. In a good way though but I'm not sure how you have it set up in the shot elevates this. I almost think the thing looking straight back at us might have more impact. So, I woulda played with the framing and/or positioning of the most eye grabbing piece in the shot, the foil face.

But, that could just be me.

Spooky is good. The empty and dead theme is important here I think. I wanted a semi profile shot of the mask for more definition. Foil is a little difficult to define physically so when I shot it straight on the curves were lost.

Thnaks for the thoughts!

Now that it's days old I would have done a lot different, but I got rid of the mask and leaves. Oh well, it was an interesting experiment I suppose. Thanks guys.

I friggin' love it. As I scrolled down and the eyes were "revealed" on my monitor it gave me chills. I especially like how the light plays with the hundreds of angular facets that make up the foil face... seriously I love this idea. The lighting is spot on for the face... I like how the light is an opposite key... then the shadow gradually develops in our direction... then the fill comes in perfectly as we get to the end of the mask on the right. The overall sepia tint works great for this also.

Yeah... I love it. I might not hang it on my wall... but it's a very intriguing image.

Wow, Matt, Thanks!

I'm not a fan of it anymore but I'm going to do some more interesting stuff soon once I finish off a few clients. Thanks!
