Hi everyone,

I'm just about to purchase a HVX-202 (pal model in Australia) and am wanting to buy the Firestore. I remember when it was first released people had a lot of problems. I was talking to a sale's rep who said that the latest firmware updates have sorted any problems it first had.
Just wanting to know if this has been your experience and whether I should buy it instead of two 4gig P2 cards.

It certainly seems to have cleared up a lot of the issues.

Buying it instead of two 4gb cards? You're talking about two very different products there; two 4gb's would be for a different purpose than a firestore. What type of things are you planning on shooting?
 
Hi Barry,

I really wanted to catch you when you toured Australia but found out to late. I hope you had a nice time here. I mostly shoot short films but every year i shot a 80min long Wearables Arts event which i normally shoot on my DVX but it would be nice to shoot it with an HVX.
More recording time would be great but I want the least amount of problems with the footage. Does the firestore corrupt the footage often. I remember reading post with pics attached with blocky artifacts all over them.
I will be investing in a M2 adaptor and Steady Cam and just want the best set up possible. If there are problems with Firestore then i will have to go with the P2 cards but a sales rep at Video Guys in Melbourne (he met you) say's that he is yet to hear any nagative reports on the Firestore since thelatest firmware updates.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Barry.

Here are some questions:

1. Has the battery issue been adressed and on current models and how long does it last?
2. Are the dropouts frequent on current production models? If so what causes them?
3. How long would it take to import a full 100gigs via firewire to a Mac Book Pro or Quad?

Thank you to anyone who can help. It sounded ideal at first but reading about it I'm not so sure.
