Flying Int'l - do X-Rays harm camera and tapes

I'm flying to Europe to shoot a doc.

I will carry-on the DVX100... I would like to put into my checked bag the back-up camera Canon GL2. Will the x-ray machines potentially damage the camcorder?

And what about tapes? I've only read that film should not be put through the x-rays.

Thanks,
Jeff

(i'm also planning on buying insurance at the airport for the checked bag that will have the back-up camera)

The airline tells me the new x-ray machines will not harm electronic devices such as a camcorder and won't damage the videotapes.

I just got back from Israel. If Israeli Security caused no problems with my tapes, then I doubt it is a problem anywhere else.

Thanks for reply... did you have your tapes in the checked baggage or carry-on?

I work for the Australian Parliament. TV News crews have to put their cameras and tapes through airport-grade X-ray machines everytime they enter the building. So after all these years I think I would have heard something if there was a problem :)

My HVX, 4 p2 cards, and 8 batteries went through xrays about 4 times in two days in route over here to indonesia.... still working fine :)

No worries.

I had tapes in both actually. On top of that, coming back from Moscow last summer, my tapes went through x-ray machines and security at least five times with no ill effects.
