Flying in the US

I think this is the right place to query about this matter.

I do not live in the USA, but in Brazil. And some weeks ago I read it's become quite problematic over there taking a laptop with you. The laptop may be aprehended as well as CDs or DVDs you may have.

As I am not sure if that is a problem a passenger may face when entering the US or also in domestic flights, I wonder what's been your experience about travelling with laptops, portable DVD players or DV/HDV cameras.

I haven't heard anything recently about laptops being seized or anything. I wouldn't suspect it to be the case. Think of how many business travelers there are, and how many of them work with their laptops while on the plane.

As far as your camera, I would recommend getting a good case for it that is carry-on legal, and carry it on with you. I would be sweating bullets the whole flight if I had to check my camera.

This is not hearsay. I read it on the newspaper here.

Apparently Washington seems to be the worst airport to get at. And it may be on international flights, because I think customs is involved.

In any case it's a very alarming thing, that may escalate quickly. Of course it's a very serious concern in business circles, where laptops are essential.

I am currently in Atlanta in a training class for work (not listening right now). I flew in from Chicago and I carried on my laptop and case of dvd's with me. I didn't have any problems getting through security. The only thing they tell you to do is take your laptop out of your bag and place it in it's own tray to run through the x-ray machine. I did leave a can of pop in my bag which they took from me.
