.flv not being read properly by any of my web designers software or video playback programs. I checked it on my computers, used VLC media player and it played no problem...but my designer said she couldn't get it to work.

what needs to be done to embed it into my website? is there any specific encoding settings that i need to use when compressing it in Sorenson Squeeze? i.e. aspect ratio, frames /second

flv movies are played by things like the flvplayback component in an swf file. Open flash. Drag an Flvplayback component to the stage. Give it an instance name. Save the authoring file, (an fla file). Place the flv movie in the same folder so you don't wind up with an absolute path. Use the name of the flv move (ie. fred.flv) in the contentPath parameter of the Flvplayback component. When you double click the contentPath parameter a dialog box will open. You can allow the component to auto size itself to the flv file. It the default stage size isn't big enough you can change it under Document>Modify in the main menus at the top of the program.

Check that it plays properly by choosing Control>Test Movie

That will make and excute a swf. You can choose different controller skins if you wish. Make an enclosing web page by going to the file menu and choosing Publish. If you have a custom page you need your movie in open the web page in an editor and select all the code from and including the object tag. Inside the object tag is also an embed tag so everything needed comes along for the ride.

One of the files produced is a javascript file which has a .js suffix. Include that file, the web page, the skin swf, the swf which is the flv player and the flv file itself when uploading to your online website.

thanks craig, they sure don't make it simple like uploading .mov files do they? cheers for the info.

If you're preparing the .flv file for another web developer, then you don't even need to go through all the steps. Once you import the video file, the flv is created and you can send it to the developer so that he or she can put it on the site.

All you need to do is create a new file, then click File > Import > Import Video and go through the encode. That's all you need to do. :)

yes, she's doing a flash site, im encoding the file with sorenson squeeze, but for some reason .flv wouldn't take, so i sent the swf ....hopefully this works

The easiest way is to use already done flash video player to display FLV files on web pages. As I know, by now there are 3 hot players on the Internet, they are JW flv media player, Moyea web player Pro and flowplayer. Just pick up one of them as you like.
