FLV compression

it is pain to produce .flvs..at least that is what I think. the most time consuming process to put a flv clip up. I think it looks pretty good too, nice universality, but I'm tired of the whole process..does not look as good as quicktime, however.

I'm on a mac and there is no flv player. so I have make a project file just to view the flv...lasdfjalsdfas...takes like 5 extra steps..

anyways, i'm looking more seriously at going back to quicktime and specifically, QT7 for all my encoding..

capt. mench, where are you? I have questions about it right now..

The flash player has a far greater penetration rate than any other single player. :

Yes, the Flash Player Version 6 has the widest penetration. That is mainly why everyone uses Flash animation in banner ads etc..., because that version of the Macromedia plug-in is "ubiquitous".

Flash version 7 is required to view FLV video files. Flash version 7 is not as prevalent as version 6. The good thing is that the download for the plug-in is a measly 480K.

I too use the Proxus skin as well as the Macromedia Flash Video kit (Peldi's skin - www.peldi.com). Here is an example. I think the quality is pretty good. The encoding bitrate was 391k:

Here is the Flash Media Display Component:

Here is the Macromedia video kit:

These are all FLV files.

..

My process is as follows:

render AVI from timeline
import AVI to Sorenson Squeeze
Export .flv video file.
That's it!

The main reason I like flv is the flexibility with the presentation of the video. Try something like this with QuickTime:

I think the quality of QuickTime and FLV is similar. They both output a similar quality / file size per project. Unfortunately, WMV still has the best bang for the buck when it comes to quality and file size.

There are a few flv players out there for PC, which is what i am using. I'm sure there will be a MAC flv player available soon, which should make your workflow faster.
