FLOWPOD
STEADICAM JR

both seems to do the same function with some price difference. steadicam seems to be popular.

I like to know some of your experience using any of these products and if you favor one to the other or youve found no difference at all.
Thanks for your input

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

If you plan to get a steadicam jr. and want to use your dvx.. You are going to experience a tough time keeping your shots steady.
The jr. works good for really light weight cameras, but not for the dvx.
The flowpod.. ??? never used one.

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

Actually, the Steadicam JR does in fact work with the DVX, there simply cannot be any "add ons" attached, such as a matte box, extra mic etc.
At most, adding a 6 oz weight to the lower battery compartment makes the JR very stable.

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

Dizkoteck,
For starters, get the steadicam mini. You can add a mattebox, a 4 hour battery, and even filters. Start here and work your way up to the elite. :)
I'll be up there soon!

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

After checking out the two websites, varizoom and steadicam. Im leaning towards the flowpod.

it has an 8lbs capacity compared to steadi 4lbs and its monopod capability. Oh hell why not?

mmmmm, $400 piece of stick. :(

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

Just remember, you'll have to be able to hold it [flowpod + camera + accessories] up with one arm no matter which one you go with. ;)

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

wow, nice lil steadicam banner there. Are you trying to tell me something? :)

Anyways I know I'll be holding the weight on both, just figuring out the price over funcionality ratio.

Still, a $400 stick

I mean, come on!

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

My banner is my company, I'm a Steadicam operator.
As far as one over the other, either will work just fine, I was just pointing out that the JR does indeed work with the DVX.
Now, as far as holding with both hands, you need to understand that one hand holds up the unit. while the other is used to "direct" the camera, keeping things in shot, level and stable.

Now, a $400 stick....basically, but a fancy one.

Re: Flowpod / Steadicam jr

Nice.
I like to thank you all for your input, it has been helpful. If there are any more, please give your 2 cents. Thanks

You're not actually stuck using your hand/arm to hold the Flowpod, since Varizoom offers an arm/vest to fit it (although you would be stuck paying out some more $$$ for the extra equipment...)

The Varizoom vest/arm will also work with the Steadicam Jr, and the Glidecam units. Of the bunch, I prefer the Flowpod, because it has a (somewhat useful) functionality as a monopod, and for me, it just feels more natural and comfortable to use.

YMMV.
