Flipping 35 adapter footage Easy on timline

Just finished shooting my first Redrock/P2 project. I got rid of my MicroX Flip this time and just mounted my SmallHD upside down while shooting.

I've been looking for a solution for this and it occurred to me. I should just turn
my external studio monitor upside down till I have my rough cut on the FCP timeline the way I want it.

That way I'm not adding any filters or 180 flop that might slow my system down at all, until I'm happy with the layout of everything.

Does that sound reasonable? I'm going to give it a try tomorrow after I log and transfer :-)

hmmm, guess it won't work for the browser or canvas though...

That is one option. Though, I would suggest that any lag in a recent system wouldn't be caused by simply flipping the image. Most heavy processing comes from changing the image in more dramatic ways, like scaling, compositing, or grading. What kind of machine are you using?

Additionally, there used to be a stand alone program to flip and flop footage like this on OSX; I will check what it is and post it if I find it.

The other thing to check is if there is a way to set a preset in compressor which would do what you want to do and batch the .mov files after you log and transfer to make them all right side up before you begin editing.

Good point grimrebes, yes, my monitor flip idea only works on clips that are already on
the timeline....

I remember running across that program a while back, I believe I saw it on the Apple site.
I'll look into the compressor thing as well - thanks!
