flight case

hi all
with the new regulations for air travel, it looks as if taking the hvx on as hand luggage is out for the time being

i was wondering if anyone has any reccommendations for a suitable case for the HVX to go in the hold. would one of the hard plastics cases do, or would it have to be metal to avoid getting trashed by the baggage handlers

Something like a Pelican case will work just fine. Metal gets dented and dinged but cases like the Pelican look great even after years of abuse.

I have a Pelican 1600 from years ago that I carried all my Nikon big glass in and it looks as good today as it did when I first bought it. I've even used it as an apple box of sorts to give me a little more height in some situations.

I know allot of people here have Pelicans or Storms and really like them. My vote would be for something like that versus metal.

Who told you, you can't take on your camera? I just flew yesterday without any problems. Unless your camera is made of liquids you cannot take it on board, but electronic equipment is fine.

Depends on where you are flying from/to. Flights to the UK are not permitted to have ANY carryon for instance. Restrictions currently seem to vary in the US depending on the airports involved in your trip, but the writing is on the wall -- no more electronics in your carry-on luggage. No iPods, no laptops, no cameras, no nothing.

Well Domestically here in the states that is not the issue. Not saying that they won't try in the future, but for now this new incident hasn't changed the fact that you are still able to take on board all your electronics.

Read the first sentence on your article, it says there is a liquid only restriction. The next sentence applys to incoming flights to the US. That is because they are in code red. Inside the US, domestically it is code orange, Electronic devices are allowed. If there is any confusion, go straight to the source.... www.tsa.gov. They will tell you what you can or canno't bring on board with you. The article TRIED to find electronic restrictions in US travel, but could not comfirm. So they SUGGEST you to pack your electronics.
I will be flying out of LA tomorrow with my camera, laptop, and ipod with me. Unless there is a code red.

thanks everyone for your replies - i forgot to mention i'm in the uk
as you can imagine they have tightened up restrictions quite considerably. no hand luggage at all at the moment, not even newspapers - just a few things like passports in a see through plastic bag

i'll see if i can locate a pelican dealer here in uk - anyone know of what kind of price i should be looking to pay?

Rygh, apparently you never made is to the fourth paragraph, because there it states that screeners at some airports in the United States are restricting electronics on flights.

You mean the one that said, "TSA HAS NOT BEEN able to confirm this"? And after that, "U.S. airlines contacted by eWEEK, including United Air Lines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines, say that they are NOT placing any such restrictions on domestic flights, but said they are following the lead of transportation officials elsewhere."?

What part of the forth paragraph did I miss? Get your final answer from the source, www.tsa.gov.

These guys are obviously US (USD) based, but they should give you an idea of ballpark prices that you'll pay from a competitively priced dealer. I'd also suggest putting your hardcase within a duffle bag. Nothing screams "expensive camera gear" like a Pelican case.

Good luck

TSA is inconsistant in the same terminals. Some let you wear your shoes, others don't, some inspect your camera and give you grief, others don't. Ironically, LGA is actually pretty lax (not LAX, haha).

My tip: scout TSA check-in areas at your terminal where the people look most tired (you can always tell) just use that and you'll have no problems. They get sick and tired of the same old sh** different day.

We match or beat Cases4Less prices with the DVX / HVXUser discount and drop ship Hardigg direct from the mfg. PM me if you need help with measurements or so-forth!
