Flickering from florescent lights...

Do any of you know how to get rid of the lighting flicker in FCP that comes from florescent lights? I did some filming two months ago and am now editing through it. I shot with just the normal f1 29.97 fps setting. Now that the shots are in FCP, I am noticing a very distracting amount of flicker/strobing from the florescent lights.

What did I do wrong? Can this be fixed?

Im not sure because I havent had that problems, but it may have something to do with what you set your syncro scan to in the camera setup

wish I could be more help

you have to adjust for it with synchro scan to match the frequency of the lighting while shooting .. unless your going to go frame by frame in post and correct for it with levels and color adjustments.

Alrighty, so I am pretty much screwed with this footage. I guess I will know better for next time...

Not nessecarily, Im just adding my input, I'm a fairley new FCP user, but Im sure the people that post in this thread my have the solution that you will need, just give it a day or two

(Check the video filters in FCP under "Video" and mess with a few filters, see if you cant get it to look a little better)

..if theres some sort of "auto constant exposure adjust" filter that would be the one to use. it tries to keep consistant exposure and tonal color throughout a clip.

What shutter speed did you happen to use also, I make sure to use a 1/60th speed when I am filming under arc lighting or flourescent, and otherwise I turn the shutter off, (1/50th)

That could have caused the flicker effect also

Honestly, I am not positive what speed I used. I think I just had it programmed to "off" and I am not sure what it defaults to. I bet one of you smart people out there would know!

If you are using NTSC, and you turn the shutter speed off, its default is 1/50th, usually when your filming any sort of arc lighting and or flourescent lighting (especially in US) it is recommended that you use a 1/60th shutter speed- It sounds like your problem was a combination of shutter speed and syncro scan - Give "iamaloser's suggestion a try, good luck

I was actually filming in a house in Poland... but I don't know if that makes any difference. I will give Neil's suggestion a try once I get my computer on in a few moments...

I couldn't find any "auto constant exposure adjust" on the effects tab of FCP. If any of you know of one that I am missing, please let me know!
