flickering frames after effects applied

it seems that when i apply the highlight/shadow filter i get this random flickering in my video. it seems only to manifest with this filter only. my workflow usually consists of a levels adjustment, shadow/highlight adjustment, saturation adjustment(to compensate for the loss of saturation after compression, so i actually oversaturate a bit), and perhaps a curve adjustment if there is a color shift. when i run all the filters without the shadow/highlight effect, the video seems fine- it is only with this effect applied as well that i get the flickering on screen. the raw video, and capture are fine. it is only with the effect applied. any ideas as to what is causing this. i am running 2 gig of ram with hyperthreading, and a hundred gid hard drive on my laptop, with a 500 gid external drive- so ram and memory shouldnt be a problem. i have also noticed that is is only with certain video that the flickering occurs. i am shooting 24pa with my own settings for every shoot (interview setup). one video with the same set of effects shows no sign of flickering, while another with the same does. very frustrating. again, i believe it to be the shadow/highlight effect to be the culprit. any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. thanks for you time.

I had a similar problem with some footage I shot about 6 months ago. The problem for me wasn't with effects but with crossfading. The video looked fine at all points except during a crossfade, when my highlights (I think only pure white did it) would flicker and make this strobe effect. Never did figure it out.

Not sure if this helps, but, I have a few scenes w/slight flickering... from the light source in the scene: Florescent lighting.

Seems any scene shot with high florescent lighting will flicker a bit.

Also, any bright light will flicker when you download to a small dv camera.... because the recording device is not progressive. I downloaded similar footage back to the dvx camera, and there was no flicker. I spoke to a high up source and he stated "because the recording device is progressive" something about the frames and drop down fields or something hi tech like that, which I have no clue about.
