Flexible or foam adapter ring

I have a Cavision matte box. Does anyone know of an adapter ring, lens insert, or flexible adapter that goes from the back of the matte box to the Nikon lenses? Because the lens turns as I focus, I need an adapter that will alow the lens to turn yet tight enough so that there is no light coming from the back of the matte box and the lens. I've searched Chrosziel, Cavision, Vocas, Petroff, and other site but I couldn't find any that will work.

Any help is much appreciated.

I had the same problem finding something so removed the glass from a cheap 52mm polariser to get the revolving ring and fitted that on flat flexible rubber to "step-up" to the existing adapter ring of the matte box. hmmm.. makes sense?

Otherwise at cavision you may be able to find a combination of rings that suit you.

Okay, I found this picture and this on another thread. Does anyone know site where I can get a foam like donut/lens insert/or adapter ring like that? Of course, it has to work with the Cavision matte box though. Else, I'll have to make my own.

Okay, I found this Flexible adapter ring kit from Vocas website. There are a couple of problems. I can't find any price any where on that site. I don't know what site carries it. And most importantly, I'm not sure if it will work with my Cavision matte box.

The problem is the Nikon rotates as I focus. So a cloth or some type of foam will be a nicer solution...but I prefer a foam if all possible.

Ring Schming!

A foam ring is a foam ring.

Why don´t you just take some foam an a Scalpel and make your own rings in minutes?

That's why I have a thread in the DIY forum. The problem is, I couldn't find a way to cut a perfect circle. If there is a tool that will allow me to cut circles, then well, I will do it myself. I don't want the circle to look like a kid has done it.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

here's the something I made earlier. I added a 52-80 something step-up to the empty 52 polariser, fake leather and plenty of glue. You can get screwed though if you over-tighten the empty pola ring on the lens.

That looks nice.

I figured that it's much easier for me to use a foam type of adapter ring. I already purchase a cutting tool that will cut the foam at various diameter. The problem is, I can't any foam around my area here. I need a tougher foam than the pick'n pluck foam to do this.

Okay, I already found all the materials and the measurement of all my lenses. All I need is a tool to cut the foam into the right size circles that will fit my lenses. Does anyone know of tool that will cut circles on foam board or foam type of materials? I need a tool that will allow me to cut at various diameter. Any help is appreciated. I just found out that there a lots of foam type of materials a a local store here. That's the good news, the bad news is non of the store so far that I found does not carry any tools that will circles on foam. The tools I found cut only wood and by using those tools, it will shred the foam instead of cutting it straight.

Circle size I need to cut are:

78mm
68mm
56mm
54mm

Couldn't you use a compass to measure the circles from the center and then cut with an exacto knife?

Yes, but they don't look really professional. I even use a Dremel to cut the foam but again, at the end the circle just doesn't look like it's done by a professional. The circle is not perfectly round despite drawing the circles on the foam board first. I need a custom cut foam company that is able to cut foams in circles. I emailed a couple of them but only heard from one.

Thanks for the post. I already spent over $45 for a hot wire tools but it's not too hot. I took too long to cut and not in circle. I would love to buy the product you posted in your link, but the foam board I got is pretty tough and the Hobbico Circle Cutter might not be able to cut them. So I guess, first, I need the proper foam. Not sure what type of foam is good.
