Flat panel=blurry panel?

I bought a new flat panel monitor, it is a MAG and it cost me around $300. The problem is when I watch playback of footage, everything looks out of focus. When I'm capturing, I look at the dvx lcd and everything is clearly in focus. Then I look at my monitor and it looks blurry. I'm going to have to switch back to my old monitor just to edit the footage. Is it that $300 just isn't going to get me what I need?

Is the monitor analog or digital. If you have a graphics card with DVI output capability and the monitor accepts a digital signal then you should get the monitors maximum resolution. Which is ???.

Analog monitors tend to soften the video more and some brands more than others.

As I understand it, the contrast ratio is an indicator of sharpness. The higher the better. Compare yours to more expensive ones.

It is possible that the screen may preform poorly when playing back video, due to high signal response time. LCD monitors are rated at various response times in ms. Now the terrible thing is that there is no industry standard as far as how to judge response time; Consequently manufactures post response times far higher than the real world performance.

scannon is right, if your monitor is digital and your computer has a DVI Port then it is best to use that as an interface. This will alow you minimal configuration issues, which if your monitor is analog, using the standard VGA HDB15 Dsub connector, you will have to configure the monitor. Finally, if your monitor is indeed analog, then you should have an autoconfigure button, this may also be another cause of your blurriness issue.

What is the model number of your monitor, as this will help us figure out the specs and hopefully give you some time of resolution.

Take care.

lower cost LCD monitors do this. IT just looks mushy? flourescant and never sharp right?

This is why i hate LCD TV's. monitors ETC.

ITs a miracle Laptop computers dont hav this problem.

My LCD cost $800 and I cant say I have ever had that issue.

I bought this in Japan where LCDs tend to be cheaper. Alas Im selling it though, will get a mac soon so will get a new 21" studio display with it.
