Flash of white

I am attempting to use a flash of white as a transition in between a couple of clips. I used 7 frames of a white matte and placed it on another track but on top of the the 2 clips and rendered it. When I played the clip back when got to the white matte the picture rolled like on a old tv set. How can I do this without the picture rolling like that?

How about selecting the two clips that are on top of each other and choosing "Nest Items" and apply a dip to color dissolve between the nest and the following clip? Change the Dip to Color to White.
