Fixing GoPro footage

The gopro fills a niche. Lets face it, how many 5ds do you see strapped to a surfboard, or to a parachute or to someones head or in my case a RC heli. There are numerous other conditions where you need a small, camera that can deliver decent quality.. Unfortunately it is not these but even the nex doesnt allow manual settings.. closest is the gh2. Try jumping out of an airplane with that tied to your head.

So this thread is a query about what people do to fix the footage in post. Obviously stabalizing it is part of the process but how do you deal with the aperature that is constantly adjusting to the light and often blowing highlights?

There are numerous other challenges.. I would love to hear what you guys are doing to make this footage workable for limited fast action shots.

I would love to know more about this to. I have just moved over to Premier Pro and would be interested in how people stabilize footage. My experiments with Warp stabilizer in AE are still ongoing.

I find that with chest mounted or helmet mounted footage, looking down the trail, in MTB videos that I have to slow things down. Check out 1:13 in the video below.

Here is an example before I started using PP CS 5.5.

Cheers
