Fix For FCP 6.0.2 P2 Import Problem

Culprit seems to be the FxFactory plug-in. Remove it from your Library->Plug ins->Fx Plug folder. Both Apple and Noise Industries are aware and I would expect a fix very soon. Meanwhile, just removing the plug-in restores P2 import capability. Thanks to Shane Ross for discovering this one.

Thanks Ned and Shane. I could not figure this out. Moving the FXFactory plug in fixed it. I thought maybe it was because I am still using Tiger since my laptop which is running Leopard would see the FS-100, but I do not have FxFactory installed on it.

So what went wrong?

This was an interesting and very frustrating bug, simply because FxFactory is nowhere close to the Log and Transfer capabilities of FCP. The technical details of what went wrong are quite difficult to explain but let me say this:

FxFactory is a very modern app and is written (like Motion) in Cocoa, Apples new development framework, whereas most of FCP is still based on Carbon, Apples old development framework. The Log and Transfer window is a glimpse into the future of FCP, because it is one of the only parts of FCP that is already written in Cocoa, which can be seen by the UI which is a bit different. It was a one in a million chance that there could be a conflict with FCP 6.0.2 in such a "far away" corner compared to what FxFactory does.

We have completely disassembled FxFactory, and made sure that these kind of conflicts cannot happen again in the future. Apple QA has been very helpful in the process of finding, and solving this bug.

FxFactory 2.0.1 will also contain three new plug-ins "Three Color Gradient" generator, "Funhouse Mirror" and "Clone Pro", a new version of our Clone plug-in which takes advantage of field-based rendering for better performance and quality.

Thank you very much to everyone who supported the effort in finding and resolving this bug.
