Fitting Oktava Mk012 to HVX questions

For what it may or may not be worth, I actually did camera mount my Octava and get good results. I set up a shot outside with two people speaking and was hearing way too much air tone from my 4073. So I mounted the Octava hyper with a BBG and framed the shot by moving the cam as close as I could. It was a hands-off static shot, on tripod. Levels were nice and hot, came out very well. A stand mounted boom pole with a shotgun would certainly have been ideal but I could only use what I had and I'm only one person. Very happy with the results I got given what I had and the conditions.

Already been said - Shotguns are more directional than cardioids. I use my Mk012 pencil condensers for h.hats, drum overheads on occasion, acoustic guitar close micing. Shotguns are better suited for capturing specific sound and rejecting all others. If you are indoors you will probably find that the Mk012 mounted on cam captures more cam noise and room noise than a shotgun mounted on the cam.

Better to use a shotgun on a stand or lav.
