first time w/7d footage-i'm a little lost!

i'm a producer who goes through the shoot footage and shapes it up before i bring it to my editors.

over the weekend, we shot a series of talking head interviews on a 7d.

it is my first time with a 7d.

the footage was shot 1080p/23.98fps

my camera person synched the clips and put them in fcp timelines and gave me hard drive.

i opened the fcp timelines and found the item properties stated: 1080p/23.98fps/h.264

i know that the cameraperson dragged the footage to a fcp timeline and fcp read the footage and created the proper settings.

but if i wanted to create a new sequence setting, what would i pick on the drop down menu for system setting?

there is no: 1080p/23.98fps/h.264

i'm a little lost as to what are my actual system settings?

i apologize in advance for the noobie-type question.

be well

Well your camera guy should have converted the footage to ProRes 422 via Log and Transfer. It sounds like he just imported the clips right off the cards instead of using the Log and Transfer option.
h.264 is not an editing codec it's a delivery codec.
To keep it easy and to answer your question. I would create a new sequence with a 1080P/23.98 setting and just drag a little sliver of a clip from one of the sequences created by your Camera guy in and let FCP match the sequence settings.
