First time green screen

I made a green screen in my garage with poster board and lit it with a flood light. I attempted to key it in with Adobe 6.0 but my subject is translucent and it seems that now matter how I adjust the threshhold or cut off he is always translucent. Did I key it wrong? Or is it mearly the result of using a cheap green screen?

It could be any number of reasons. When you say Adobe 6.0, do you mean Premiere or After Effects?

dvGarage.com has a great plugin called DVMatte Pro that was designed specifically for compositing DV footage. You can download the demo and see if it works any better.

PremPro can do an excellent Key and I suggest you got your lighting wrong.

Post a frame grab of yur shot ( with the green screen)

It's Premiere 6.0. I'm not entirley sure how to post a frame grab. If you tell me how I'd gladly do it.

place image tags in post, those are the tags you get when you click the fourth icon in lower row above the smileys above where your lookin now. Once you get the tags in place your url where the image is located http://www.yourspace.com/grab.jpg in between the tags. If you don't have a server to post to email the grab to me and I'll post it for ya

I've just been messing with that too, but with blue screening. Try a bed sheet, I've been doing some blue "bed sheeting" and its been pretty sucessful. LIghting is key! Also try all the different Keying options they have for it. Play around until it becomes clearer. See below for latest test

Is there a spacific blue color? Like powder blue? Do you have any tips on lighting a green/blue screen?

You need a high saturation blue or green colour. ( Deep colours, not light)

You should not need to try different key options if you shoot a blue or green key b.g. They are 'Chroma' Keys and that is what will work.

Simply:
B.G should be as far away from subject as possible
B.G should be evenly lit
B.G should be about 1 to 2 stops below subject exposure
(Backlight on subject often helps with cleaning up the key edge)
