first shot at directing a music video

my first attempt at directing a music video (no budget or profit made) just testing out my camera and giving the band (friends of mine) a free video./

please click the link and let me know what you think.

Quick response... I watched the first few minutes without sound, as I'm at work... I'd recommend watching without sound 'everything'... but especially music videos... anyway...

What struck me most was the very different pacing that the shots of the band playing, vs. the 'other' material. The band looked energetic, perhaps even frenetic, but
the shots of The Story, were slow, not much going on, etc.

In terms of technical stuff, I think you could do something better on white balance, or removing the yellow cast. Again, for some material a 'yellow' cast may work, but for this
material it seems more like using tungsten lighting and not color correcting.

I'd recommend finding a story in the band's music, that better matches the music, at least in so far as I intuit from the action of the band playing...

Congratulations!

My thoughts:
The band scenes are too dark.
The color balance was off.
Most of the shots following the girl weren't dynamic enough in keeping with the band's music, i.e. locked off and at standard angles.
What was up with the quick shot of the person in a furry costume?
It didn't seem like the guy was really drinking in a bar. Maybe place him at the bar itself with other patrons having a good time around him, surrounded by bottles and the like.
I didn't really get what it was about. I thought maybe they were broken up and missing each other or something. But when they get together at the end that didn't seem to be the case. I guess they were just bored with life before the concert?

Anyways, directing is hard work, but you did it. You should be proud of it and keep working. You'll just get better and better.

I agree with the others about the story part of the video. Personally I would have done what you did starting at around 2:40 or so (with the main characters) closer to the beginning. Meaning...at the start of the video, have more of the girl and the guy going through their lonely day...then maybe by the first chorus they're at the bar...then by the second chorus they meet up...and add some more to the end. Overall, I would use more story line and less of the band playing at the club....more of a film set to music.
As Vcassel said though, you should be proud of it and keep going....I think a re edit could add a lot to what you already have though...with maybe a few additional scenes for dramatic purposes.
