First short film shot with the Sony A99: The Calling

Thanks for posting. Truly excellent videography/filmaking. The camera is making very nice images. At times it was not as detailed as I wanted, but there is definately another player in the market for sure. As a side note, Sony went with 1080p24 & 1080p60 for the only record modes. This is kind of a drawback as external recorders on the market will not record at 1080p60. Please correct me if I am wrong but I called Sound Devices and they told me the Pix will not record in 1080p60. Nor will the Nanoflash. Maybe this will addressed as HDMI does not have the restrictions HDSDI has.

I am sure the viewfinder makes this camera very easy to film with.

True that the camera only records 24P and 60P to SD cards, but the HDMI puts out 30P right now, converted from 60 or 24. We recorded to a Ninja recorder on a helicopter and direct to a BMD Intensity (both record to Prores) for greenscreen being in 60P on the camera and HDMI out going to 30. These were pre-production models of the A99 and Sony tells us that the HDMI out of the A99 will also support 24 and 60, probably through a firmware update. So for recorders that do support 60P there will be the possibility of recording uncompressed slomo, which is pretty exciting for a camera at this price point and form factor.

Great piece! I don't care what you shot it on, I watch it and enjoyed it. It made me feel bad for sitting in my office chair and not being outside with a camera, any camera.

Nice piece. I downloaded the 1080 file and played it on my NLE to my HDTV. It was slightly soft so I popped in a bit of sharpness filter and it now the image popped without looking videoey. Nice.

This shows that content is still king! You can have the best camera in the world, or a mediocre camera, it doesn't matter...What matters is a good story, something that people will enjoy watching...

Incredibly nice footage that unfortunately does not cover the camera weaknesses (softness, moire, aliasing).

I've posted 2 weeks ago "down to earth" footage simulating "normal" documentary shoot (not sponsored by Sony).

My comments are on the Vimeo page.

Non scientific footage sample :)

Thank you!
