I've got a decent camera rig with a tripod to mess around with. I've been having a lot of fun learning how to use different lenses, etc. However, lighting is an area I haven't looked into much yet. I've been able to find lots of books/tutorials on it, but I'm a little lost on where to start, equipment wise. For now I'm just making short films with my friends that are uploaded to youtube. So, no interviews, events or corporate gigs. This is more something I'm just exploring to have fun and see if I want to pursue it. I'd like to keep my initial investment in lighting around $500 to start. Ideally, some kind of modular kit that I can keep expanding on. I'm just not sure what are the absolute first priority items to get. In case it matters for selecting lights, I have a 5D Mark II.
