Background:
Did video work part time after high school, more of a grip than anything, later got into still photography and have been a second shooter at about 6 weddings & primary shooter at 1. I did video (SD) at my sister's wedding and edited & packaged that together. It turned out pretty well & I had 3 cameras going.
Just upgraded to a 60d and one of the photographers I've worked with is allowing me to do a "test run" on a wedding she's shooting next weekend. The deal I've worked out is I'll come out, shoot, and put something together. If the couple wants/likes it, they can pay me for it, if not then I've got some good practice and some demo reel footage. They weren't planning on hiring a videographer so if there's some equipment disaster and it doesn't turn out, it's not a big deal.
Looking for a little guidance from people who have done these since this will be my first one with this equipment. What I"m planning to use...some is mine, some will be rented:
- Canon 60d
- 28-135 Zoom
- 35mm F1.4L
- 8 GB SD Cards (4 or more)
- 2 Synheiser wireless lav mics
- Zoom H4N
- Monopod
- Cheap stills tripod
- Zaza type slider
Since I know how important the audio is, I'm planning to use the H4N for 90% of it, connecting the house's sound system to one channel, and running the wireless lav mics on another. (Is it possible to record all 4 channels at once if you bypass the internal mic?)
Video wise:
I'm planning to get the processional (from the front of the room) & recessional (from the back of the room), then during the ceremony some shots of the wedding party & family and hopefully either over-the-shoulder shots during the vows or maybe just in the center aisle.
I only have 1 camera but I'm not going to produce a full start to finish ceremony video, mainly highlights from the day and the vows/presentation of the couple, etc.
Any suggestions from the pros here? (Besides having a pocket full of business cards) haha
