.... I know this is odd...and I don't want to take away from the gravity of the situation ... but man.... you can't buy publicity like this.
I hope they catch the people responsible, there seems to be plenty of internet buzz and the reward can't hurt.

i find it odd with the timing and all...

Like I posted in Timur's thread...I am happy that Mark's family is safe, however its more than just a camera. To RED and to Mark, its signifies the first time someone threw down $1000 and said, "I believe in your vision". I know there are a lot of B&E's in the Alps, but I don't think this one was too random. Mark posted the resort he was staying at and when he was going in a REDuser thread. I hate to say it, but I think it was definitely pre-meditated.

The thieves will be safer in the hands of the police..... if people from the cinematography world get a hold of them then they will envy the dead

Gun doesn't help much if you are asleep during the break in.

Home security, like ANY security, has to be in layers.

This is my early warning system:

At least when you are occupying a room, a simple door wedge and/or a portable alarm system add at least a modest level of security.

and obviously when you travel with uninsured awfully expensive unique camera, you don't publish every detail of your travel on any tweet, blog, forum, facebook page you can find.
