First Epic "In the wild" stolen in France - watch out!

It seems sad but there was probably a lot of sentimentality for that camera, considering its the first available for the general market and the back story with how the owner got it... But, gear is gear, and at the end of the day, as teddy says, it's good they're still alive and able to shoot another day.

Thats terrible, the violation is among the worst aspect. At least they didn't take a child instead. As A parent thats frieghtning AS HELL. The camera is plastic and metal that can easily be replaced. People cant be. I wouldnt be suprised if they try to sell it to a big company like canon or pani to reverse engineer. Crazier things have happened.

Joe Dono strikes again!!

I'm sure it will turn up. No one will be able to sell it or use it or promote it without raising every red flag in the filmmaking world.

I'm worried it will end up with some rich private collector. They will never be able to sell it on the open market.

Man, earlier this year my three Canon DSLRS and all of my lenses got taken from my car RIGHT behind my back...

It didn't dawn on me that they were missing until I walked into my apartment and felt very empty handed. I tore the vehicle apart, called everyone who was on set...

Needless to say what little I did own was never recovered and I was set back to square one on several thousand dollars of cash investment. For me, that's a lot of money... I'm habitually broke.

Even still I can only imagine how upset Mark and Co must be. The good thing is that he runs a large business and that camera is DEFINITELY insured, RED just has to build him another one.

Hope the camera turns up.

Really? You're worried about the camera? ...it's a camera...a thing...it can be replaced.
I'm with Issac on this, who cares about a camera. If you have to worry, worry about the victims and how they
will have trouble sleeping in the future and always be looking over their shoulders in their own home.
I know... I've been there...happened years ago and I still have nightmare every now & again.

This is really scary stuff.

Well the word is certainly out. Just Google "Red Epic stolen" and there's easily two pages of press links about it. Hopefully that will lead to a arrest and/or recovery. If they were simple thieves they probably have no idea what they have. If they were pro's but not targeting the Epic specifically they won't know what to do with it or how to easily fence it. If it was corporate espionage, they know exactly what they have.

Joe Dono strikes again!!

HAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha! That little f**ker

Seriously though, I think these thieves just stole themselves a prison sentence. There will be absolutely no way to do anything with it without people knowing. Unless they just sit on it, which is unlikely...

Couldn't selling this to a competitor be of significant value?

Well, I know there's already a few out there shooting (spiderman has 4 of them), so I don't see this being "Corporate Espionage" as some are thinking. It's possible, but in my opinion, highly unlikely.

What's more likely is that some thieves ransacked the place and have no idea what they're holding onto. Or, by now they probably do and are sh!tting their pants worrying how they're going to unload it. The only safe way would be to destroy it, but...

My money is on Joe Dono too. He's made his way to Europe, watch out.

you have no idea how close you are with this joke.....I had these gangs in my house in the alps.....twice! got them first time and met the whole family at the court hearing.....

.... I know this is odd...and I don't want to take away from the gravity of the situation ... but man.... you can't buy publicity like this.
I hope they catch the people responsible, there seems to be plenty of internet buzz and the reward can't hurt.
