FireWire Problem

I've read through almost every firewire problem in this forum but have not found an answer.

My PC will not recognize my DVX100A or PV-GS19 anymore. My PC does recognize firewire Lacie drives.

And get this, if I hook up the camera via firewire, then hook up the hard drive via firewire, the computer doesn't recognize anything.

The moment I unplug the video camera's firewire, then the PC recognizes the hard drive.

Anyone have this problem?

Have you tried plugging a different camera in to your PC? If it recognises that ok, then you have an issue with the camera itself and it'll need a bit of pro TLC...

I read a lot about this and it looks like the problem is SP2 and SP3 on the pc. I got a new pc and tried it and again, the same thing. Both PCs had service pack 2 or above. Since SP2, PCs have not been recognizing panasonic cameras.

I'm thinking about buying and older mac to use to log. What do you think?

...?

None of my PCs have any problem reconizing any of my panny cameras. They're all running SP2 and beyond at the very least. (Go back 3 spaces and draw a diagnostic card!)

IN MY EXPERIENCE THIS IS NOT TRUE, I USE PANASONIC DEVICES SINCE Year 2000 , Win XP Sp1 and later SP2 and no problem, actually I'm working Win XP SP2, Premiere SC3, Panasonic DVX 100, AG dv60, HVX 200 (DVCPro 100) without complains.

In the last 10 years using MiniDV, I have damaged several fire wire ports cause of mistakes and neglet, be carefully, this is a frecuent issue about this port.

Wierd...the exact same thing happened to me this week. I have a Lacie drive that was reconigized by the pc and also a DVX 100 and panasonic palm camcorder and both were not being seen by the computer. After many uninstalls, reboots, and system restores I just went out and bought a new firewire capture card.

Note: I replaced the firewire chord, and also installed a plain old firewire card but nothing worked. I went to microcenter and purchased a V STREAM capture card that has multiple inputs and came with software and drivers that reconiziged my camera...$80 later my problem is solved.
