Firewire problem with Vista

I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista 32bit ultimate pre installed and am running Premier elements until my new Premiere Pro CS4 package arrives.
I have a JVC BR-3000 miniDV deck which ran perfectly as throughput device to view my video on an external TV moitor.
Now it wont.
In the monitor section it recognises the deck online but will not playback.
I checked on the device manager, and the port is enabled.
Any suggestions

which monitor section? Is your computer at least recognizing the device? And what are you seeing when it won't play back?

Just updated to Premier Pro CS4 and it recognised my JVC deck, everything working fine now.
