Firewire port not working

Well, I've had my DVX100a for about 3 weeks and have captured several tapes worth. Now that I have purchased a pc to edit with I now want to dump the contents to my pc. But for some reason I cannot get Vegas (or several other edit programs) to recognize the camera. Other firewire devices are picked up with no problem. I took the cam to another pc at work with firewire and it doesn't detect it either. Any clues before I try to get it repaired under warranty?

Re: Firewire port not working

try a different cable. The DVX has shorter pins than normal firewire devices, so you need a good cable that has good pins to make a solid connection.

That is one wish from me for the DVX200.. a normal firewire port instead of the mini.

Re: Firewire port not working

I have tried several different cables but still no go. One thing I have noticed, if you have any other firewire devices plugged in to your card as soon as you plug in the DVX they go offline. For example, I had a firewire CD-rom drive and as soon as I plugged in the DVX it was un-available. I also did some more experimenting and found that the DVX has to be powered on for that to happen. If the DVX is turned off, every other firewire device stays working. As soon as I turn the DVX on they go away. I guess I'll have to use that warranty.
