Firewire Hard Drives

Re: Firewire Hard Drives

I got a Western Digital 120 gig FW drive that I bought out of Circuit City....no issues here. The thing has neon lights all over it and lights up the room when the lights are off! LOL!

Re: Firewire Hard Drives

The last thing I heard on FW devices is the LaCie Big Disk Extreme. FW800, 500GB, 88MBps. Edit DigiBeta on your FW drive. Cool, huh?

-Even better: Bigger Disk Extreme. 1TB of Digibeta for 1K. Or 1.6TB for 2200,00.

Cheaper than SCSI RAID solutions, no?

Re: Firewire Hard Drives

How about this for a hypothetical, as I am technically inept. If I were to capture footage in one FCP 4 project, while keeping the footage on my Powerbook hard drive, closing the project, opening a new project, saving the footage to the Firewire HD (transferring quicktime files if possible). No, Yes?

Re: Firewire Hard Drives

Or what about USB Hard Drives? Storing my footage using a USB harddrive and capturing by camera with firewire? Would this be sufficient?

Re: Firewire Hard Drives

i use internal hard drives with out the firewire. i use the two fire wirecards one for the deck and the other for the mojo. do i need to switch to external harddrives with fire wire.

Re: Firewire Hard Drives

If you wish to move captured media in FCP take a look at using Media Manager menu option in FCP. It will copy or move the files and keep them all linked.
