Firewire connector breakage

I solved this issue before I bought my first firewire cable for use with DV Rack.

I bought a 4 pin to 6 pin female adaptor and fixed it to my camera. You can get these as right angle by the way. Then I bought a firewire cable that was 6pin male to 4 pin. I get the benefit right away of plugging the long firewire cable into a 6 pin on the camera side even though both end of the equation are 4 pin. No fancy construction required just thoughtful shopping. I got everything I needed from Laird.

Craig,
when you say that you fixed it to the camera, did you crazy glued it to the camera?
I see what you are saying and that is a nice solution. I just like the added support of the headphone jack and the battery holding this thing up. not to mention not having to buy another cable since I already had bought one.

Thanks for the idea.

OK guys,
I've set up the website with a paypal shopping cart and will be selling this item. I also want to put it on another section of this site as an advertising. What do you guys suggest I place it in:

DVXuser Shop
MarketPlace / Buying Gear or
DIY

the web site is:
http://firewiresaver.silo23.com/

Thanks,
Luis

HI, I have a question for you all, but I just got the firestore fs-100 and keeping having the issue where if I jostle the 6-pin end of the FW cable attached to the firestore it drops out. I then have to unplug it and wait like 5 seconds for it to detect again. I once had to do this like 5 times before the camera would detect the drive.

Is this just an issue with a bad FW 6-pin port on the firestore or what? I'm thinking of taping that end so it's snug on the firestore and won't move.

I'm going to be filming a wedding and moving around a lot and don't want to miss footage because of this...and don't want to go the P2 route because it doesn't have the capacity I need for the money I can afford right now...but if this is an inherent issue with the firestore I just might go ahead and buy the P2 cards (thank goodness for the cheaper e-series 64gig cards)

I just find it odd that I'm having more of an issue with the 6-pin side than the 4-pin. Is this something I just need to return and exchange?

Anyone?

We disagree since the FS 100 is advertised on Panasonic's camera leaflet and we used all original parts. Our opinion is that this happened due to poor
technical design - the camera connector should be more robust or the FS100
should come with an angled firewire cable.

I've used the FS-100 on the belt clip many, many times with the regular straight cable connectors and have yet to have a problem. As with any other cable connector used on or with camera, it should be a regular practice to relieve the strain on the connection.

This can be achieved by looping the cable around a belt a few times and THEN plugging it into the Firestore on the one end, AND by cable tying the cable to the camera's side hand strap (leaving a nice loop to the connection) so any pulling or movement of the cable is not transferred to the connection.
