Firestore or DV tape deck for DVX?

Okay... I need to either purchase a DV deck or a Firestore for my DVX. Can someone give me the advantages and disadvantages of both? I shoot everything 24pA so the Firestore would need to be able to handle that.

My other question... I need to get a TV/monitor hooked up to my computer so that I can output Vegas to a monitor and do color correction that way. How can I properly output video from Vegas to a monitor?

Bumping up as it's a question I am curious about as well.

I'm not sure on firestores ability to capture 24p but as it should be the same output as anything dv tape wise i don't see how it would be a problem. I would recommend the firestore over the dvdeck. I'm lookin into gettin a DTE at somepoint myself. To do a tv monitor output through vegas you need to connect a camera to your computer via firewire (it is safe to do this with your dvx if you wish) then u connect your rcas to that camcorder and then to a tv.

If you shoot scene file 5 type 24- then it is should be no problem seeing as it is still 30frame video (just a pulldown applied to see 24 frame type motion). Not sure about using 24pa though. I am still a firm believer in tapes, i think that DTE systems allow you one less time to watch your footage (i.e. batch capture eliminated). The process of watching footage over and over leads to a better edit IMO. Theres a reason people watch dalies.

I always shoot 24pA so I definetely want to make sure that the Firestore works with that... Hmmmm, I'll have to do some more research, I guess.

Direct to disk recording is becoming more economical than tape every day. However, getting an edit deck would also give you a good solution for hooking up your edit station to a tv.

Sorry for the newb q's, but what is "scene file 5 type 24" and 24pA ... something else for me to worry about when I get my DVX100?

I didn't know there were different 24 fps modes / settings
