Firestore FS-4/Quickstream

Using these two alternatives to tape as recording devices would reduce the amount of time considerably one spends working on projects such as wedding videos and events. I was wondering if any of you had any opinions on whether either of these products is a worthwhile business expense for starting a small videography business. Would greatly increase your ability to cut videos by avoiding the whole capturing process. I know when you've got to pay people per hour to edit or to pay for your own time by capturing or time spent using equipment to capture, would it be more worthwhile to simply purchase one of these storage devices and avoid that whole muckup anyway?

I use the nNovia QuickCapture. Saves a ton of time, and is convenient, even though the battery weighs a good bit. I sling it around my tripod or my waist depending on the shooting circumstances.

When I get back to my NLE, I turn it to hard drive mode, and then simply click and drag the files from the QuickCapture to my 250GB external drive.

I have several projects going now, and this method has proved invaluable.

Good to hear... I think the firestore will be a slightly cheaper option... although the one you use looks pretty good too...

Even on projects without deadlines, I find the real-time digitizing process to be a drag on my workflow. If you're going to be shooting weddings and events, your clients will *greatly* appreciate any faster turnaround. And time not spent on digitizing can be used for editing or marketing. However, when you're starting a business, you probably have a lot more time than money. If that's your case, you could wait until you have enough business to justify the expense--at that point it goes from a luxury to a necessity.
