 Just found out FOCUS makers of the FireStore FS-4 units are charging $300.00 for the HD Upgrade.

Wanted to find out how other owners feel ?

Keep in mind the upgrade is applicable to either the FS-4 and FS-4 Pro edition.

I don't know how others feel but after paying a grand for the pro the upgrade should be free....

Your thoughts?

im not surprised.Since when are upgrades free for anything? Look at what you are getting.HD is not cheap no matter what the product is. Not only that, but if this is an alternative to P2, then that doesnt sound all that bad to me.

OK I agree somewhat..
but after shelling out over 1 K ? thats one thousand dollars.

I get free upgrades with xp, and free upgrades with my other software...

it like gas prices.... u drive a suv and you pay.

thanks for your input.

sorry for being negativie.

but if you bought a dvx pro for 3300.00 and billy bought a dvx normal with half the capabilities for 2700.00, three months later panasonic offered both groups the same upgrade discounts How do you feel?

what kind of hardrive does it use? Im thinking a laptop drive maybe a full size 3.5" drive. The drive is most likely just connected via IDE and run thru a FireWire BUS. If this is the case and your handy just buy the drive yourself and spend half the money. The only problem I see is how the drive is formatted. It must be FAT or NTFS...not sure though

The upgrade for the FS-4 is HDV only. It won't work with the HVX200. The FS-100 is being released to work with the HVX200 and is still a FireWire recording device. It will be available in March of 2006.

After re-reading the advertisment on the FOCUS site, the upgrade is and i quote;
"Update your FireStore FS-4 or FS-4 Pro to record 1080i or 720p MPEG2 transport streams from HDV camcorders".

So - Looks like you are right and this probably not work with true HD, such as HVX200.

I guess I'm not as upset as I should be since I am not going to use HDV ...But it looks if I want to continue down the same path, I will probably need to shell out another 800-1,000 for the new updated model FS-1000.

When I originally bought the FS-4 the advertisement stated that "high-def" would be released as a software update. NOW Focus defines Hi-def as HDV, so looks like I have no upgrade path with the FS-4 to HD and that really blows.

regards

The FS-4 is not going to be upgradeable to the FS-100. Totally different product. For all we know, the FS-100 may actually use two drives in a RAID, for example.
