Firestore for DVX.

Yes, but that's not the one you want because you'll spend way too much for it. That's the FS-100, which is designed for the HVX200. It'll work with the DVX, but there are cheaper FireStores out there. All a DVX needs is an FS-4.

FS-4 retails for about $750 or so, FS-100 retails at like $1800. So if you go new, the FS-4 is less than half the price; if you find one used I'd expect the same ratio to hold up.

what? this is the first time I hear about this product. Does this mean that using the FS-4 will save wear of video heads? Will it work if the heads are damage? Does this mean I could use my DVX for ever?

Sound like a nice product to get. I'm thinking about it. How is it? any cons?

Bump! REALLY want answers on the above post!

From my understanding using the firestore will save head wear and I believe can record well even with bad heads. besides the fact that it makes capturing lot faster as you could transfer files from hard drive to hard drive. You might want to transfer back to tape (cheap camera) for storage after editing or trash it if not important.

Yes, the Firestore works by taking the firewire signal from the DVX and recording it to HDD. It interfaces in no way with the heads or tape deck of your camera.
