Firestore confusion

I am borrowing a HVX and firestore from a friend to shoot my short. And according to him, to pull the footage off of the firestore I need to have Final Cut Pro (and/or another editing program) to put it on an external hard drive.

Unfortunately I know nothing about firestore and there is no manual (yes I can look it up online) but I thought maybe somebody could save me some time with a simple answer of how the laptop (in this case) reads the firestore and if its a matter of dragging the video clips to another external drive from the firestore.

thanks!

just plug the firestore in to your firewire port, then go into the firestore functions menu (i forget which one, it reads DD Drive) and tell it to mount as a hard drive, then pull the data off.

You don't need FCP to see the firestore or copy the data but if you're on a mac, you do need it to watch the HD video clips since you need the codec installed on the computer.

Sweet deal, all I need to know was if I could pull it off or not, my friend has FCP...then I can wait till I have some cash to get it.

THANKS a lot!!!
