Firestore - Can you stream HD to FS while taping SD?

Hello everyone. This forum has been a great reference for me for a long time. But I couldn't find this answer. So this is my first post.

I use an HVX200 with a Firestore. When I first bought the FS-100, I heard that you could stream your footage to it while simultaneously recording to a DV tape as a back-up. So I'm wondering, can you stream HD to an FS100 while taping standard-def? I can not get that to work. Is it only possible to record in standard-def to tape and the Firestore simultaneously? If I had P2 cards, would I still not be able to make a synchronized standard-def back-up onto tape. Btw, I'm shooting in 720p/24p.

Thanks!

No. You're either in tape mode (which is always SD) or you're in P2 mode (which can be HD, but the tape is disabled). So you can record HD to both the P2 cards and the fireStore, but you cannot stream HD out the firewire and simultaneously be in tape mode. Doesn't work that way.

That's what I was afraid of. Explains why I couldn't get it to do both. Too bad. I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope that I always have the Firestore on the right settings and I'm getting it all.

Thanks for the reply Barry. I'm sure it will help others when searching for this same info.

If you're going to use a firestore with an HVX in tape mode, you MUST make sure that you turn VIDEO OUT OSD to OFF. Otherwise all your firestore footage will have the time/date/timecode information burned into it!
