'The Dark Knight' could have gained a wider audience if it were less 'dark' and had more humor and romance.

I don't think any of us can speculate on what would have make The Dark Knight gain a larger audience, considering how well it did. Personally, I think if it did what you say it would have reached a smaller audience.

On the topic of preachyness, I don't them because they try to tell me what to think and how to feel when that's something I like to do for myself.

the exorcist is a religious film... about the bible and what happens when the devil has a hold on you.... Evil... Yes this is a christian film or religious film all the themes are there. The Omen...

chapel grove shut the **** up... dark knight got an a audience you'll never be able to comprehend. 500 + domestically. thats more than anything other than titanic. A movie doesn't have to be all fun and games and pin the tale on the donkey ice cream and birthday cake. the film is a about chaos. good vs evil. sacrifice. Those are things I think are important. thats what the bible talks about. good will over come evil and sacrifices are made in order to do that. If the passion had more humor i think it would have found a bigger market too eh? You sir, are talking out your ass. go make a movie, and see if you can even find a viewer. OUT.

Okay, personal insults are unnecessary and are not permitted. I will be reporting.

In the meantime, you're completely entitled to enjoy the movies you enjoy for the reasons you enjoy them. Just give other people the same right and respect. There is a segment of the moviegoing audience who would never watch a movie like Dark Knight, but who very much enjoy movies like Fireproof. They deserve the right to their preferences, just like you deserve the right to yours.

ok so if the FOF dont approve then its no good. well nothing would be on scene except pixar films.

I didn't say that, did I? I said everyone has their own likes and dislikes as far as film -- or anything else. And people who like Christian films -- 'preachy' or otherwise -- are just as entitled to their opinions and preferences as anyone else. Nobody is trashing and insulting people who like 'Dark Knight' or any other film or genre. We'd appreciate the same respect.

i'm saying is you act like dark knight is not as good as fireproof where as fireproof is no where near the craftmanship of that film. director / writer c nolan is the one of the best out. we're like comparing paint by numbers to picaso or van gogh...

I don't mean that at all. I haven't seen Dark Knight, but judging from the commercials I have no doubt that its craft and quality are excellent. It's clearly a great movie for its audience.

Fireproof is totally not in that category, but then again it was made on a FAR smaller budget. Even so, it's a good movie for ITS target audience.

All I'm saying is each audience is entitled to its preference. That's all.

So if I saw this movie and was like it wasn't good even though I'm totally objective of it then...... what?

That's got to be a pretty small segment... and why would someone 'never' watch The Dark Knight? It's rated PG-13, 8th graders can see it... I mean if you want to surround yourself with only inspiring and uplifting content then okie dokie but i think they're in massive denial about real life, do these people who won't watch The Dark Knight also not turn on the evening news?

What I WILL say is that Dark Knight is not as good for ME as Fireproof. By that I mean simply it's not something I personally would enjoy watching. The same could be said for a lot of movies -- American Pie, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Pride and Prejudice, Shaun of the Dead, Saw. They're just not movies I have any interest in. I don't condemn the people who enjoy them, I'm just not one of them.

We all like something different. That's what makes life rich.

i know K71. I mean i feel better after watching requiem of the dream. Because it's so dark, it makes think. wow I hope that never ever happens to me.

name movies you watch... you guys make it sound like fp and facing the giants is the biggest thing ever.

What part of real life is depicted in Dark Knight? The struggle between good and evil? That's hardly new. What can the average person learn from Dark Knight that will help them in their daily life? I'm not saying every movie has to have that -- movies can be purely escape. But you imply that people who don't want to watch dark, violent movies are not facing 'real life', so escapism doesn't really come into play in that argument.

As to the size of the audience segment, that's something the market will determine, just like with any other movie.

Not the biggest things ever. I just like them. That's okay, right?

Some of my other favorites.....

"That Thing You Do"

"Galaxy Quest"

"Stardust"

"Juno"

"Star Wars" (the original)

"Rustler's Rhapsody"

"The List"

"The Terminal"

"Ghostbusters"

"End of the Spear"

"The Robe"

The list goes on and on.

having been shot at, cancer and other ordeals I know about pain and suffering. the film shows people who are in fear and chaos just like todays society. Society lives and fear. the big moral of the story is the joker tries to say everyone is just like him and if they are in enough fear and chaos the fill become just like him cause more chaos and fear an spread like a disease. But people aren't just like that. Yes some do become like that but not everyone is evil and people do do good and batman is a savior to gotham sacrificing his self his identity, his money, his strength just to make society better and takes the fall for other injustice and becomes a villain in the end because he has to pain for the sins of others.... i try to do good becuase there are people like batman out there doing good. just not like batman of course.
