Re: firefox

That's what everyone was saying so I said to myself "self, these guys should know, give it a try" Well it was a mess! Must have conflicted with something on my system. It was brutal. Some pages would lock up and I had to alt ctrl del - Was an awful and scary experience and I will need therapy to get over it.

Re: firefox

Ok, so I downloaded Firefox, installed it and compared it to IE. Having used IE for the past few years and up until just a few minutes ago, I can tell you for a fact that Firefox runs slower and uses more resources. Pages load as if they are slowly being revealed from the top to bottom, whereas IE popped them up almost instantly (Note: I allowed Firefox to load pages/images into cache to make the test fair.) When I do click a link there's a long delay before anything happens, including internet activity in the task bar. With IE I'd click a link (or "save file as") and there would instantly be an effort to make a connection. Firefox just sits and waits for something.

More importantly, and sorry to say, but Firefox is a system resource hog. Check for yourself. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and look at the processes. IE is using (right now on DVXuser) 21mb of memory. Firefox (on the same page) is using 33mb. Why would an application that is a smaller file size take up 40-50% more resources? Trust me, I want an alternative to IE, but Firefox is not it! I think some of you are just hungry for something new and this hunger has temporarily blinded you.

I'll keep using it from time to time to see if it improves, but why would I want to give up 10mb of memory? Memory is LIFE!!!!

Re: firefox

Strange. I find Firefox to load faster than IE. I also find it to be more secure and less vulnerable to malicious scripts. I love the tab bar bookmarking. As far as memory hogging, it's using two megabytes more than IE on my system, which is pretty negligible.

And in Firefox under privacy in the options menu it takes just one button to clear your cache, cookies, and everything else. May seem minor, but IE can be a beaatch after you've been surfing for a few weeks and you've got cookies and a cache taking up space.

Re: firefox

I'm finding the same...Firefox loads faster and using 10 megs more but what's 10 out of 1024 megs? No popups no grief. Maybe it's not as good on dialup connections. Tab bookmarks rule and what about that walnut theme eh? I disagree PK...firefox rocks!!

CTRL-Alt-Del test yeilds

IE...........13mbs
firefox.....23mbs

Coldstart to DVXuser cache cleared/history/cookies

Firefox.....6secs
IE............10secs

Coldstart to google search page

IE............2 secs
firefox.......2.5 secs

tab bookmarks save 5 to 10 secs aquiring favorites/bookmarks

No malicious scripts........Priceless
