Fireballs

Maybe a few hours. I'd say something like 100 - 150 for an independent short. Explosion could be done much cheaper too - depending on your budget and time constraints.

Depending on what house you use - independent guys typically work with the film maker. Larger houses charge by hour or flat.

Oh you don't do the work yourself? I was thinking I could talk to you to do it.

Yeah, it's not for a short though. I'm more of a feature guy. :) The explosion scares me though - through 3D. I've seen many done and most don't look that real. Models seem to look better to me, since they actually "exist" vs 3D that doesn't exist. Anyhoo. I guess I'll see as time wears down.

Oh I'm an indie guy. Not affiliated with a house - wouldn't really want to be with a house. Basically self taught.

It depends on the 3D work. A lot of the stuff you see is done in AE and unfortunately does look pretty fake. But if you understand the construct of particles and fluids in high end systems - you can get a pretty decent looking effect. Many effects are done practically and then digitally enhanced. But I've done a good deal of straight 3D stuff.

Unfortunately that is about all I am capable of. I have no idea how to model. Though I am learning.

I was actually talking about a lot of the stuff you see in the Theaters. hahaha Many of these big houses - I don't know if they move too quick or they use their new people, but I've seen some effects from some big names look like crap.

But that's besides the point. Matty, do you think you can do a few bullet holes in a car. I send you the matted footage and you add a few digital shot holes in the side, and maybe shoot out the wheels and some glass? I'd pay you to do it. I'm not looking into this until next year, but I understand if you don't feel comfortable. I know there was another guy on the board and all he did was 3D, so I may look him up and ask him.

Went out and purchased some things yesterday. Will post images / video of it very soon. Show you what we're doing.

By the way.
Anyone got a few spare tons of TNT?

JLS4,

Be sure to let me know. I plan on launching our VFX division of my company end of this QTR. But I am actively looking for projects. Send me a PM with some more info and we can go from there.
