Fire Wire Cables

Hello Fellow DVX Users, I am very new to this scene. I just bought my first ever camera, and yes it is a dvx100a. But how do i check which firewire cable connects to my camera and computer (4 pin 5 pin). And do i have adobe on my computer, will the firewire cable capture the footage from the camera to that program.

Thanks in advance for the tips.

Re: Fire Wire Cables

There are two types of firewire connectors, 4-pin and 6-pin. The 4-pin is the tiny one on your DVX, the 6-pin is much bigger. Most computer firewire cards are six-pin, although built-in laptop firewire connectors are sometimes 4-pin.

Re: Fire Wire Cables

Hi in light of Jan's recent post about Firewire hazards ;), make sure to power down your computer and DVX before connection, then power up the DVX, then the computer.

Re: Fire Wire Cables

If you're using the firewire to transfer footage from the cam to the computer for editing....even better is to NOT do it. Use a 2nd cam or deck for that.

That will save wear and tear on the heads and completely eliminate the danger of blowing out the DVX firewire port. :)

But if you're using the port for connection to DV Rack or something, just be careful, as Rush said.
