Dear Folks:

I'm finishing a project in FCP 3 that I shot with my old (now sold) TRV900. I need a couple of extra shots and I will probably be using a DVX.

Does FCP 3 support the DVX if your using 60i? Or do I need FCP 4 to get footage of any kind off a DVX?

Thanks
Raoul

How long till FCP supports the new Sony HDV cam?

Raoul,

You would only need FCP 4 if you were going to shoot on the 24p advanced setting. You can shoot in 60i or 24p(regular, F5) and have no problem with importing and editing the footage. The only issue that you may notice is that the audio may be two frames off from the video when imported. This has been something that has been corrected in FCP 4 but was an issue with version 3. But, if you don't notice it, then your audience definitely won't either.

As far as the Sony HDV, no one has a clue, apple doesn't release any information early about updates, or support for cameras. But, i'm guessing if they would like to please those users that they are working on supporting it in the next update.

Thanks for the info!

We won't have to wait for FCP 5? Didn't we have to wait for FCP 4 to DVX support?

FCP supports HDV via third parties. Have a look at http://www.lumierehd.com/

As for apple's inclusion on FCP, I don't really know when it will come.

Do you guys think they are going to give us a free update? Or they are going to force us to buy the upgrade?

All the best

Fidel.
