I've had the privilege to work on a student film that had an insanely high budget - and got a lot of good experience as a Grip. I am considering pursuing an initial career as a grip -> dolly grip -> best boy and maybe even key grip to earn money to do my own projects later. Anyways, I like gripping essentially and I'd rather do that than run cables or coffee.
Anyways, while it's easy for me to get experience on unpaid school jobs - I am having trouble finding any work on a real set, paid or unpaid. The Best Boy on one short I worked on that had a massive grip truck (150,000 dollar short - amazing) asked me for my number so he could call me if he got any other gigs that needed people, but he never did and my phone crashed so I don't have his number anymore. *doh*
So any tips for finding grip jobs in LA area?
