finding information on ancillary markets like foreign territories, foreign dvd, etc.

I have an investor who'd like to invest in my film. But he'd like a little more information about the ancillary markets (foreign territories, foreign dvd, TV, cable, hotels, internet) and how indepedent films perform in those markets. imdb pro really only gives you the U.S., foreign, and DVD box office figures. Does anyone know where I'd find any information (preferably a specific movie's performance in as many of those markets as possible) on this? Thanks.

Michael,

Yeah, they sometimes have worldwide gross. This investor wants more specific information though. He wants to know just what an independent movie would make on, say, a deal to put your movie on the Sundance channel. Or how much I could sell my film to a Japanese distributor for. As you know, for small films, all those little outlets and revenue streams are where our movies make their money back. So he wants that very specific information so he can decide just how much money it's worth risking.

Best,
Chris

Stacey Parks just published a book on film distribution that has basic sales number by territory:

Also her website and newsletters are very informative.

Exact numbers are very hard to get - The Hollywood Reporter published last year in August a basic revenue by territory and budget which could be used for general guidelines but so much of it is based on genre, cast, etc.

You may want to hire a foreign sales agent to get a better idea of the current climate - also with the Cannes Film Festival opening here soon - Variety and The Hollywood Reporter will have lots of coverage and related articles as to what is selling, prices, and full list of films at the market for sale.
