finally saw the HVX in action with FCP and what a nice camera!

Except the Apple expert from Midwest Media Group told me you can't downconvert to SD with FCP. Very disappointed in that. I'd like to shoot in HD for archival use and be able to distribute SD right now.
He said I could buy a $2k real time converter, and "that's working on a budget".(rather smugly I might add.) That's not working in my budget. I could probably afford the cam, but would have to capture everything shot in HD directly into FCP. I won't spend the money on the P2 cards until they become a little more reasonably priced or at least have more storage.
Just my 2 cents.

but wow what a camera. the slo motion 24p was stunning.

also, I hate buying add - ons for different hardware/software solutions. That's why I got a Mac.

WHAT? Of course you can downconvert to SD. Please. :nads:

If you capture HD into FCP, you can always distribute to whatever you want. If you can output to a WEB codec (h.264, mpeg4, etc.) you can output to SD. Just edit in HD, and Export as whatever you want. That guy you were talking to was just trying to sell you more crap. :kali:

thanks. What a load off. It seemed silly that FCP couldn't convert it. I'll never shop at his store now.

I think I'll rent the camera for my next project to try it out before I buy it. That is, if I can find a rental house with one available.

And about the 60p/slo mo 24p thing, your right it was shot at 60p but played back in 24. At least that's what the guy demo-ing the camera said. The display said 60:24.
