Finally Moving to LA (Santa Monica)!!!

Well from photos and videos the I've seen, LA reminds me more of Guadalajara than Mexico City. Either way, I'm sure such a huge Mexican population will make me feel at home ;)

I think actually being gay is more professionally useful. Or being able to fake it, at any rate.

Back when I was a hot young writer for about 5 seconds, I had a ton of meetings with development execs, and probably half of them were gay men. Perhaps if I was so inclined I might have had more success with them, who knows?

Seriously, without any intimate dimension to it at all, it could have placed you in useful social situations.

Just the way of things.

Yes... you can choose your classes/professors. If you ever take any film classes, I would recommend Steve Flood.... especially if you take a film production class....

Thank goodness. Like I said, one of the biggest reasons I chose SMC is because of one of the professors.

Anyway, I'll keep Steve Flood in mind. How are the film courses at SMC? Are they worthwhile?

¡Me gustaría tener prestado mayor atención, mientras que el aprendizaje del español en la escuela secundaria!

Ok, so I'm here! Technically it's Culver City, but it's close enough to Santa Monica. I only drove straight though, so I didn't get to see much, but unexpectedly it actually reminded me of Mexico City!

Yes, the pollution, the traffic, the crazy freeways, the messy roadwork......... Ah, it feels just like back home!

On another note, I feel like Pico Blvd. has more activity than the entire city I just moved here from (Grand Junction, CO)! Lmao, good stuff.

Culver City's not bad. You can take the bus to a subway station, might take an hour ride though, and from there you can to all the way to Hollywood or Long Beach.

Vivo en la ciudad de California, un hora de L.A. No me gusta vivir aqui pero es muy barato. Que todo se vaya bien cuando estas aqui.

Culver City isn't a bad neighborhood to be in.

And the pollution isn't nearly as bad as it was 10 years ago... Now, you hardly even notice it (or maybe I've gotten used to it?)

Pico Blvd. is a good area. I used to work at Anna's Italian Restaurant, which is on Pico near the 405... but that was years ago...

Yeah, CC's okay and there are some nice residential pockets in there. You're close to Fox, Sony, Lightstorm, Lantana, Raliegh MB and the various West Side outifts...

...also not far from the Grove (which is not a big deal really) and the adjoining Farmers' Market (which is kind of fun - the Malaysian Restaurant is not to be missed...)

Tom, it's just that you're used to the pollution now. In another three or four years - like most transplants to LA - you will develop a dewlap-like organ behind your tongue, at the top of your windpipe to extract organic nutrients from that air...

I'll have to get used to walking and taking the bus, but being literally right in Pico seems to be pretty nice. I won't have to walk too far for most essentials. I'll have to hit the beach sometime this week, maybe play around with my camera there.

The whole city really does remind me of Mexico City, and I'm glad about that. If I can make it work well enough without a car (at least for a while), I think I'll be happy here.

Now I just need to find a part-time job. Not that easy in this economy, especially for someone with no work experience to speak of. But hopefully I can find something...

Venice beach is such a zoo. Reminds me of Santa Cruz, so hippie. Soon as you can buy a bike and keep it stored in your apartment. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The house where I'm staying has a fairly secure place for a bike. Still, I'll probably get a cheap second-hand bike just in case.

Checked out Venice Beach today. Pretty awesome on one hand, not so awesome on the other. Plenty of interesting people, the vibe is crazy. The idiots harassing women are not so fun. But I enjoyed it, and I have a feeling I'll be going there quite a bit. Also saw the SM pier. It wasn't completely full of tourists today. It was actually fairly calm, and I enjoyed it. The breeze from the ocean up there is delicious.

Also got a sunburn on my right arm and nose. Oh well, next time I'll wear sunscreen.

As far as bikes go, do you guys know where you're allowed to park them? I've seen them tied to just about everything (stop signs, parking meters, etc.), and have only seen about 3 bike racks in all of LA :P

That jungle-bars-and-stuff area south of the pier is a great place to work out. When it's warm my trainer and I go there sometimes...sea air, sun setting over the Pacific, girls in bikinis...

...now I feel like working out.
