Finally finished our new edit suite

So we have been working (slowly) on our new room for a while and we finally finished. Well I still need to back light the monitors and get the plasma calibrated (it's still breaking in) but we are pretty excited about it.

If anyone has any questions about anything let me know I researched a lot of stuff when designing it.

Looks VERY nice. That's the color walls I like. What is the shutter on the wall for? Is that a surround controller on the desk?

The shutter on the wall is an access panel that hides the gas line shutoff valves :) It's code that they have to be ventilated but I didn't want to see them. There are two controllers, the one on the right is a jl cooper mcs3800 and the one on the left is just for volume and headphones it's a presonus monitor station. I want to replace it with a rackmount one so it doesn't take up desk space.

The room is really not that big. I think the wide angle lens is a little deceiving. I think that the room is like 10ft by 15ft.

It's subtle but the paint is actually two shades of gray a darker one behind the monitors and a lighter shade on the side walls. It helps break up the room a little bit. I was pretty strict on as little color in the room as possible but a few things help to make it less gloomy.

My sister actually painted the back wall which I think adds a lot to the room.

Thanks for all the compliments.

Ahh! :) Well that explains the shutter. Haha. And I agree, not something I'd like to see.

Okay, now I know what that is. I used to have a PreSonus CentralStation, and had thought about getting the controller, but then I got the Dangerous Monitor station (http://www.dangerousmusic.com/stsr.html) I haven't bought the Surround module yet (the top rack mount piece) but have that in the plans when I go full surround (building a new 28x28 garage with full studio over it at the moment), problem is, 3 more Adam A7 speakers are not cheap.

While the Dangerous controller does take up desk space, I absolutely love the control it has. I am willing to give some of that up.

Nevertheless, looks great!

the room is pimp! very good job you made a great choice on the color of the walls, professional colorist grade on a room with walls that are 18% gray so you are pretty close which is gonna be great for critical cc, my edit room is very very similar, i went with laminate floors similar to yours, adds just that perfect blend of elegance, congrats man, looking forward to the final pic with the added backlight for the monitors

That controller looks nice, I will have to check it out. I was leaning towards getting a central station but haven't looked to closely at the different options, did you have any issues with it? I think I will upgrade the speakers before I get a new controller. The KRK's are okay but not great, I am leaning towards Genlec. How do you like the Adams?

The central station is a nice piece of gear, and I used it for A LONG time. The only reason I moved away from it is I wanted to be setup so if I need to go 5.1 in my studio, I can do so. If you aren't worried about any surround work, the central station is probably fine for you. It has great control, and even includes a REALLY NICE DAC in it as well if you want to run digital to it.

I absolutely LOVE the ADAM A7s. The top end is so nice. I added the Sub8 as well and am happy with it. I've used Genelec's before and they sound fantastic as well. If I were buying again I'd go ADAMS again personally. I've liked them THAT much. (I had Tannoy's before which I am glad I don't use anymore).

Sweet room. Must be a nice place to work in.
How are those audio monitors doing for you? I was planning to acquire a couple personally.

The KRK V6's are nice not to expensive and pretty flat. They are much more accurate than the KRK rocket series. I got a killer deal on them so they work well for me for now until we upgrade.

I was planning on getting some 6" Genlecs and a Genlec sub but I have heard good things about the adams so I am gonna talk to my friend on about letting me try out both in the office and see which one I like better. From the quick comparison I did I like how solid the Genlecs are but I didn't spend a whole lot of time really listing to them. I have heard that the Genlecs can be some what fatiguing.

I would definitely try both. I think both are going to give you fatigue if you are in front of them long enough. Given the narrowness of your room, I'd also consider putting up some acoustic dampening on that back wall myself. I think it's going to be a little too hot, the reflections you get back.
