I have a question in regard to levels for different types of media. I am currently mixing a film that is going to be put on digiBeta, but at the same time, is also going to go out DVD and also hopefully broadcast. The question I have encountered is that all these types of media require different levels of sound.
From what I gather, film (digiBeta) dialog should average around -20 dBFS with peaks all the way to a max of -3 dBFS. Broadcast should be the same, but denser so that peaks don't go above -10 to -12 dBFS. Then DVD levels can be much higher.
My question is, what levels should I mix at then assuming that I am going to go to these different media types? From what I gather, I should probably mix for digiBeta levels, and then I can always slap a limiter on it for broadcast, and for DVD, levels can always simply be boosted as the DVD authoring stage.
Does that sound right or am I way off here?
