Final Cut Woes

Hi everyone,

New guy here. I purchased a DVX100A recently and shot my first project in 24P ADV.
I didn't experience any difficulty logging and capturing in Final Cut 4.5 HD. But boy am I having ahelluva time printing to tape (mini dv). It seems that the audio is coming through, but the darn video is missing in action. I was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem. I would appreciate any assistance in this matter.

Thanks.

Defrag your computer and close everything you don't need in order to put it on tape.

I wouldnt, worry about defraging just yet.
are you getting RT preview of the video over firewire if you just playback the timeline?

Final Cut Woes

Yes, I see the RT preview when I playback the timeline. But when I hit the two VCR buttons on my DVX it's seems to only record the audio.

What OS are you working with? A couple of posters at the LA Final Cut Pro Users Group swear that 4.5 is very good with OS 10.7 and 10.8, but somewhat buggy with 10.9. I run FCP 4.5 with OS10.9 and I've got some issues with this combination.

I'm lost???? OS 10.7, 10.8, 10.9???? Did I miss something? I'm on 10.4.3 and a check of the Apple website shows that as the current OS.

so if you just try to record while playing the timeline you loose the video you had been seeing? or only durring print to tape you get no video?

when I print to tape, I not getting any video. Yet when I just play the timeline I can see it play though my DVX LCD screen.

P.S. I have OS 10.4.3

Check your Audio/Video Settings; A/V Devices Tab, do you have selected "Different Output for edit to Tape/Print to Video"? If it is unselect it.

Sorry about that. Yes I did mean 10. THREE.x, x & x. Must've had an attack of brain fog.

But - I've also seen posters saying that they had problems with FCP 4.5 after they upgraded to Tiger. So I'm feeling trapped in 10.3.9 until I can afford to upgrade both my OS and FCP. Anyone seem to be having problems with FCP 4.5 and 10.4.+?
