Final Cut Studio Update Scaled Back and Delayed

"can" being the key word here. With FCP and any Mac, it's DONE. There's a big difference between the two.

And please, let's not debate the pros and cons of PCs versus Macs here in this thread. We all know PCs are great because of the heaps of software and generally infinite customizability (open) which leads to amazing capability. But Macs are also great because they having amazing compatability because of limited hardware options (closed), user friendly system environment and program set inside of OSX.

Both are useful and have their place. FCP works fantastically for those in a Mac workplace.

I agree. Both Macs and PCs are great tools.

My question was: Are their advantages to using CS5 on a Mac? The
answer I'm getting from reading this thread is "no". If you've invested in a Mac,
are comfortable in a Mac environment, then you would use CS5 on a Mac.

If you don't have a Mac, there's no reason to buy one if you're going to edit with CS5 instead of Final Cut.

Is that about right?

P.

Imo i dont think fcp is getting the shaft or scaled back because apple has spent a lot of money and effort in creating the prores lineup that is used everyday by many big and small studios ans the devices being manufactured by companies like aja to support on apple workflow

True, and yet if Apple sees a greater ROI on their iDevices (and I suspect that it is the case), then a shift more towards that area would not be surprising.

No.

First, the reasons to buy a Mac or not are very complex and not necessarily for this forum and thread. I firmly believe that there is value in Mac and OSX though many PC guys will tell you there isn't. PCs are great, I have em and I build em; both platforms are great! If buying a computer, figure your budget and look at both and see what best fits your work and work style.

Second, I mean, if you have the money, get a garage full of tools!!! If money were no object I'd have Avid, CS5, FCS and more on a couple Macs and PCs. Get what you can afford.

Third, CS5 is great on Mac. If you like MacOSX and CS5, go for it! They are great together.

Long time FCP user here, but have CS5 and thinking about biting the bullet. Someone mentioned I/O drives (for Matrox, AJA, etc.) Anyone know/have a list of which ones currently ARE supported and working well?
It's time to throw the baby away with the bathwater!
THanks.

All I know is I am waiting for Matrox to release their drivers for my MXO2 rack for CS5.

So am I. After finding out that Matrox's drivers weren't ready for the latest Adobe updates a month ago - but not until after I had installed the updates. This is extremely frustrating.
