Final Cut Studio is not supported on MacBook

I'm not sure that is exactly what the support message says:

If you have a MacBook, the Final Cut Studio (Universal) crossgrade Installer does not prohibit you from installing the pro applications, but this configuration does not meet the minimum system requirements for Final Cut Studio.

Read the offer on this page:
http://www.apple.com/uk/finalcutstudio/
Final Cut Studio 5.1 — now native. Take advantage of up to twice the performance when you run Final Cut Studio 5.1 Universal on the MacBook Pro, featuring the Intel Core Duo processor.

I'm not %100 sure what apple is saying in the link you posted. It is pretty wordy and a touch confusing. Sounds scary, I agree. That would be insane though if we cannot run Final Cut Studio (universal) on a MacBook.

i have a macbook pro upgraded to 2 gig of ram everything including final cut studio runs well for me

The Apple link refers to the Macbook, not the Macbook Pro.

It seems they have deliberately handicapped the Macbook (in terms of graphics card) forcing us to buy the much pricier Macbook Pro. Otherwise the Macbook looks like quite a sweet deal.

This is quite annoying. The link specifically refers to Motion. I'm hoping that FCP will still function properly... it's rather vague on that issue. Hopefully someone can try it out soon and let us know.

It works now, but is unsupported by Apple. Who knows why? Perhaps the next release will require extra Graphics Card power?!?!

I actually bought a MacBook which subsequently died on me within 3 days. Went back to the Apple Store to exchange it and decided to upgrade to the entry level 15" MacBook Pro for an extra $500. I never did get a chance to install FCP or FCE on the MacBook, so I don't know how well it would have worked or not.

I think it might be because Apple doesn't "suuport" capturing to the system drive or and external FW drive. Since that's pretty much the only options on a laptop, FCP is not officially supported. Of course, I could be completely full of it. It's happened before. ;)
